2010 TESTING RESULTS

Beginning in the spring of 2010, the PACRS worked with several local, state, and federal partners - the Adams County Land & Water Conservation Department, the Wisconsin Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Oceanic and Atmosheric Administration - to monitor the water quality of Petenwell and Castle Rock Lakes.  By gathering baseline data on phosphorus concentrations, water clarity, and temperature, we are taking critical steps toward assessing water quality and ultimately improving the health of the lakes.  In addition to the water sampling efforts, we also contributed to better understanding the public health impacts of blue green-algae by sampling lake water and examining it via microscope for five ptentially toxic blue-green algae species.

In 2010 alone, 18 different PACRS volunteers contributed to this effort, putting in 343.5 hours!  If you would like to join us in this monitoring effort, please contact us–it's easy, and it's fun!
